The MotoGP rider market is about to explode, and Aprilia has a critical decision to make. With the 850cc era looming and most contracts expiring, Massimo Rivola, Aprilia's team boss, anticipates a chaotic scramble for riders. But amidst the uncertainty, one thing is clear: securing Marco Bezzecchi is a top priority.
Rivola's stance comes after a whirlwind of events. Bezzecchi joined Aprilia following their deal with Jorge Martin and Maverick Vinales' unexpected move to KTM. Thrust into the spotlight due to Martin's pre-season injuries, Bezzecchi quickly proved his mettle.
But here's where it gets interesting... Bezzecchi, previously a race winner with VR46 Ducati, stepped into a new role at Aprilia, focusing on technical development. He excelled, leading Aprilia to their best MotoGP season yet, securing third in the world championship with three grand prix victories and three sprint wins. His impressive performance included leading the race for 144 laps, second only to champion Marc Marquez. This puts him in a prime position as Aprilia strategizes for the 850cc era.
"I'm sure Marco deserves to be considered as a priority for Aprilia Racing," Rivola stated, emphasizing their commitment to retain Bezzecchi. "And with that, it means that we will try to secure Marco with us. If it's possible, good. If it's not possible for some external reason that is not under my control… But for sure, Aprilia Racing and Marco, I think, are quite a good couple. And it would be a pity to break it.”

Rivola, however, is more cautious about Jorge Martin's future. Martin, despite a best result of fourth, had a challenging season due to injuries and a contract dispute with Aprilia over an exit clause for 2026. Rivola believes Martin needs time to regain confidence.
"I think 2026 will be a mess in terms of the rider market. But let's celebrate the good season we had. …Then the key for Jorge will be to have three very good days in Sepang." The opening official test of 2026 will be held in Sepang from February 3-5.
