The world of cinema and television is about to get a whole lot more diverse and captivating, as the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) showcases an exciting array of projects through its KVIFF Talents program. This year's edition, marking the festival's 60th anniversary, promises a unique blend of stories, from K-pop-themed series to a mysterious thriller set in socialist Czechoslovakia.
Unveiling the KVIFF Talents Projects
Among the six audiovisual works selected from over 100 submissions, three feature films and three creative projects will be presented. Each project offers a fresh perspective and an opportunity to explore diverse narratives.
Feature Pool
Exposed by Klára Tasovská and Lukáš Kokeš delves into the semi-legal queer world of socialist Czechoslovakia, telling a universal tale of personal courage and dilemma through the lens of a young photographer. This mystery thriller, set during the normalization era of the 1980s, promises an intriguing exploration of identity and reality.
Nera, the debut feature by Ivana Vogrinc Vidali and Darja Miková, follows Tereza, a high school graduate facing a life-altering diagnosis. Her journey of resilience and connection with her guide dog Nera highlights the limitations of a system that prioritizes obedience over instinct.
Until We Leave, Lucia Čižinská's debut, takes us on a road trip with four women in their 30s, confronting their lives and futures while visiting a terminally ill friend in France. This intimate drama blends tragedy and comedy, offering a unique observational experience.

The Inhalatorium, Bára Anna Stejskalová's animated feature debut, follows a 13-year-old girl's quest to find her missing friend at a mountain sanatorium. A story of friendship and determination, it showcases the power of youth and curiosity.
Burning Witches, written by Martina Babišová and Věra Starečková, transports us to the 17th century Bohemian-Polish borderlands. Noblewoman Katuše's mission to save her sister and emancipate her community makes for an epic historical drama with a powerful female lead.
K-Dream, directed by Adam Sedlák, tells the story of Nikǒ, a European K-pop enthusiast who returns to Europe to establish the first K-pop idol academy in Berlin. With Adam Mišík, a Czech singer and actor, attached as the lead and co-screenwriter, this series promises to blend music, culture, and personal ambition.
