China's basketball ambitions are soaring high, aiming for Olympic glory and global sporting prowess. After the NBA's successful return to Macau, the country is doubling down on its efforts, seeking foreign investment, nurturing homegrown talent, and setting sights on the 2028 Olympics. The General Administration of Sport of China (GASC) has unveiled a comprehensive strategy, outlining guidelines and measures for provinces, municipalities, and relevant associations, institutions, and enterprises. The plan focuses on elevating youth, grassroots, and professional basketball, fostering open competition, and promoting comprehensive development and pilot reforms. GASC also encourages high-quality foreign investment and the establishment of overseas leagues and training institutions in China. Ambitious targets have been set for Chinese national basketball teams, with the men's team aiming for consistent performance and qualification for the 2028 Olympics, and the women's team striving for world-class status. Long-term goals include strengthening the youth basketball scene and significantly increasing the number of Chinese youths playing basketball by 2030. Despite setbacks, such as recent losses to South Korea, China's basketball community remains determined, with players and coaches reflecting on the importance of internal fighting spirit and the journey towards Olympic success.
